Using Community Partnerships to Support School Gardens, Nutrition, and Wellness Across the District
In partnership with El Centro Oncológico MD Anderson de la Universidad de Texas y el Fundación Valley Baptist Legacy, CATCH Global Foundation is proud to have supported Brownsville Independent School District’s 2024-2025 gardening program expansion through the Comunidad Escolar de Práctica.
Brownsville ISD has truly embraced CATCH’s philosophy of coordination. Educators have created hands-on learning opportunities for students in every stage of the garden lifecycle—from planting seeds, to harvesting, to preparing healthy snacks. They have integrated garden-based lessons into core subject areas like math and science. The wider community—including parents and local organizations— support the gardens with resources, workshops, and open-invitation events like cooking classes.
Their enthusiasm and ownership of the process reflect a strong commitment to wellness and a healthier future.
