María Isabel is the founder and Executive Director of Colegio Tilatá, an independent K-12 International Baccalaureate school in La Calera, outside of Bogotá, Colombia. After serving as Colegio Tilatá’s Principal for 29 years, María Isabel has recently shifted to devoting more time to working with public schools in the area, as she is a firm believer in the role that education plays toward creating social change. María is committed to creating private-public partnerships to address issues of inequity, violence, and a lack of opportunities that are prevalent amongst Colombian youth. Over the years, Colegio Tilatá has built and developed a program that seeks equilibrium in academic and human development, the latter based on Positive Psychology, Mindfulness, Restorative Practices, democratic skills, happiness, and social and environmental consciousness.

Maria Isabel studied Philosophy at the Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia and has a Master’s Degree in Philosophical Perspectives from the State University of New York in Stony Brook.
