Theme II: Classroom Teachers (6wk)

Choose to be a healthy role model. Post the CATCH My Healthy Living Commitment sign to share how you model healthy habits.

Make a point to demonstrate healthy habits in front of students. Let students “CATCH” you…
  • Drinking water instead of sugary beverages; eating fruits and vegetables at lunch.
  • Post (at least) one picture or video on social media of a faculty CATCH MVP engaged in a healthy activity. Use #CATCHMVP.

Send home the Our CATCH School flyer (English/Spanish). It declares your classroom a “Healthy Snack Zone,” describes CATCH and offers healthy snack suggestions parents can send to school.

Perhaps you can...
  • Ask a parent to make copies (English/Spanish) for you or email it to your parents.
  • Include this information as an agenda item at back-to-school night.
  • Coordinate the Healthy Snack Zone as a grade level project.

Teach one or two CATCH Go For Health lessons in this six-week theme.

Keep in mind...
  • Classroom lessons (Kindergarten/1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th) integrate with many core instructional areas, e.g., language arts, mathematics, etc.
  • Lessons can be easily modified to decrease the amount of time needed to teach them.

Monitor portion distortion. Food portion sizes have increased significantly over the last 20 years. Be “super wise” before you “super size.”

Some ideas...

  • Take the Portion Distortion Quiz
  • Read food labels for portion size.
  • Split meals at restaurants or plan to take half of the meal home.
