Early Childhood Nutrition: It's Fun to Be Healthy
The It’s Fun to Be Healthy Teacher’s Manual features 9 nutrition-based lessons (called Good Food Kids) and 10 gardening-based lesson (called Garden Kids) to be taught in the classroom. All lessons are interactive and contain engaging activities and experiments aimed at promoting healthy eating behaviors and increasing children’s preferences for healthy foods. The manual also includes English and Spanish Parent Tip Sheets that complement the lessons and are intended to be sent home to encourage family involvement.

Good Food Kids Lesson 1: Gus Goodfood Helps a Friend
Children will be introduced to program characters and identify healthy eating behaviors.
Good Food Kids Lesson 2: All Aboard the Veggie Train!
Children will identify and learn the imporance of vegetables, as well as set a goal to eat more vegetables.
Good Food Kids Lesson 3: Singing About Milk, Yogurt, and Cheese
Children will identify and understand the importance of dairy foods, as well as set goals to eat dairy more healthily.
Good Food Kids Lesson 4: Let's Eat Some GO Foods
Children will taste-test a veggie and cheese snack, and set a goal to eat GO foods as snacks.
Good Food Kids Lesson 5: Singing About Fruits
Children will identify and learn the importance of fruits, as well as set a goal to eat more fruit.
Good Food Kids Lesson 6: Rabbit, Turtle, and GO Snacks
Children will identify and learn the importance of healthy snack foods.
Good Food Kids Lesson 7: GO Drinks
Children will identify and learn the importance of healthy beverages, as well as set a goal to drink GO drinks most of the time.
Good Food Kids Lesson 8: Let's Eat a GO Snack
Children will taste-test healthy snacks and set a goal to eat GO foods for snacks.
Good Food Kids Lesson 9: Singing for GO Foods
Children will review the major concepts of Good Food Kids and set a goal to eat or drink a GO food.
Garden Kids Lesson 1: Tom the Tomato
Children will identify and learn the importance of plant-based foods. They'll also learn about how plants grow.
Garden Kids Lesson 2: Digging and Planting
Students will learn about soil and experiment with sprouting seeds in soil, sand and potting mix.
Garden Kids Lesson 3: Plants Get Thirsty Too!
Children will learn that plants need water to grow, identify the function of a plant’s roots, and observe how water moves through plants.
Garden Kids Lesson 4: Let's Make a Salad!
Children will identify vegetables as healthy foods, taste-test vegetables in a salad, and set a goal to eat more salads.
Garden Kids Lesson 5: Do Plants Eat?
Children will learn how plants make their own food, why plants are green, and observe the effect of sunlight on plants.
Garden Kids Lesson 6: It's Planting Time!
Children will review a plant’s requirements (water, soil, air, and light), and observe plant growth from seeds into plants.
Garden Kids Lesson 7: Friends in the Garden
Children will identify bugs and worms that are helpful to garden plants.
Garden Kids Lesson 8: Good Garden Soil
Children will learn about and make compost.
Garden Kids Lesson 9: Eating Plants
Children will understand that different parts of a plant are eaten, and identify which part of a plant certain vegetables are.
Garden Kids Lesson 10: How Amazing Are the Plants We Eat!
Children will learn about and taste-test fruits and vegetables, followed by setting a goal to eat more of them.
