Early Childhood Physical Activities
The CATCH Early Childhood (CEC) Physical Activity Box is specifically designed to nurture a love of physical activity early on in children. There are over 300 developmentally appropriate activity cards that are easy for teachers to follow in order to lead safe and enjoyable activities for children. Each card features detailed instructions for how to play the games, includes the skills that are utilized, and lists the equipment needed. The CEC Physical Activity Box offers a multitude of resources aimed at making it easier for early childhood teachers to meet the recommended 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA). Below are a collection of sample activities from the CEC Activity Box.

Playing It Safe - #18-19
An overview on how to make physical activity environments more safe.
Learning to Stop, Look, and Listen - #40-41
Children practice creating "a bubble of space" while marching and freezing.
Freeze Walk - #42-43
Children practice parading around the space and stopping when they hear the “Freeze” signal.
Can't Sit Still - #46-47
The teacher sings a song while the children move and follow along.
Paint the Bubble - #48-49
Children pretend their scarves are their paintbrushes and paint the inside of their bubbles (hoops).
Show Me - #61-62
Children practice identifying body parts and performing various locomotor movements.
Animal Fun - #63-64
Children practice non-locomotor movements (bending, twisting, stretching, etc) by impersonating animals.

Children practice identifying GO & WHOA foods, and demonstrating their effects through movement.

Children pretend to feed GO & WHOA foods to imaginary horses, and demonstrate the effect of the food on them through movement.
