Ianthi de Alwis-Shields is a first generation American. Her parents, Dilu & Sharmini, are originally from Sri Lanka. She was born and raised in California. Ianthi graduated from San Diego State University in 2007 with a BS in Kinesiology, with an emphasis in Physical Education. She holds a Masters of Science in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention from California University of Pennsylvania.

She previously taught in California for 2 years and has taught in Oklahoma for the past 5 years. Ianthi’s school was one of two schools in Oklahoma awarded the Alliance for Healthier Generation award in 2016. The Bronze award was a great honor for the first time application. Southern Hills was also a Fuel Up to Play 60 award winner in 2016. Her school is a Let’s get Active School participant.

She is currently the CATCH Champion at her school. Leading her teachers through the importance of health and wellness is a new found passion that she is excited to share with her staff.

Mrs. Shields is a mother to two little boys, Ivan and Drew and wife to Daniel. She is an active member in her church and enjoys being a coach’s wife. Her passion to inspire children through play can be summed up in this quote “Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.” ~ Mr. Rogers
