Rose Haggerty currently serves as the Executive Director of Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD). TAHPERD is a not-for-profit professional association of individuals in the allied fields of health education, physical education, recreation, and dance. This Texas-based association is composed of over 4,000 professional and student members serving education from early-childhood through college. While most members are employed in public or private education, individuals representing interests in government and private agencies, business, and health care provision are increasing their voice in membership. TAHPERD was founded in 1923 and is the only association in Texas serving education in all four of our disciplines—health, physical education, recreation, and dance. The association is committed to the development of knowledge and programs that promote active, healthy lifestyles and enhance skilled, aesthetic motor performance.
Prior to joining TAHPERD, Rose worked over 39 years in public education, which includes teaching experiences at the elementary, secondary and college levels in the states of Kansas and Texas. Her last position was Manager of Health and Physical Education in Houston ISD. In this position, Rose was responsible for the administration of HPE programs for students in grades PK-12. To ensure that community values and norms are represented in the district’s health and physical education curriculum, Rose also facilitated the district’s School Health Advisory Council.
