One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetimes. The good news is, skin cancer is preventable! This session will prepare participants to implement Ray and the Sunbeatables™: A Sun Safety Curriculum for Preschoolers,Kindergarteners and First-Grade Students. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center developed Sunbeatables™. The evidence-based curriculum educates children, parents and teachers about sun protection and promotes sun safety behaviors in an effort to reduce children’s lifetime risk of developing skin cancer. The entire curriculum and supporting materials is available for free at sunbeatables.org. The curriculum’s theme is sun protection is a superpower. As a result of the curriculum, children will: express why sun protection is important and demonstrate how to protect their skin from the sun.
