Using Community Partnerships to Support School Gardens, Nutrition, and Wellness Across the District

In partnership with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation, CATCH Global Foundation is proud to have supported Brownsville Independent School District’s 2024-2025 gardening program expansion through the School Community of Practice.

Brownsville ISD has truly embraced CATCH’s philosophy of coordination. Educators have created hands-on learning opportunities for students in every stage of the garden lifecycle—from planting seeds, to harvesting, to preparing healthy snacks. They have integrated garden-based lessons into core subject areas like math and science. The wider community—including parents and local organizations— support the gardens with resources, workshops, and open-invitation events like cooking classes.

Their enthusiasm and ownership of the process reflect a strong commitment to wellness and a healthier future.
