Why Whole Child?

Coordinating a campus around a Whole Child approach to wellness provides a foundation upon which all physical and mental well-being programs and initiatives can thrive. It is well-documented that healthy kids are better learners and social & emotional skills and competencies lead to better academic and life outcomes.

Programs that address Whole Child components are proven to have a significant impact on physical fitness and dietary intake, as well as Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) outcomes like self-perception, self-awareness, and empathy. The most successful programs use forms of active learning based on movement and participation.

The Guided Journey

The Whole Child Guided Journey is CATCH’s most comprehensive hands-on training and implementation support package. At the end of the Journey, school wellness leaders and teams will have knowledge, skills, confidence, ability and resources to effectively lead coordinated whole child programming across the entire school campus using the evidence-based CATCH framework.

Your Whole Child Guided Journey Includes:

  • 4-part training series – scheduled over the course of a school year for school wellness teams
  • CATCH Coordination Kit (cornerstone resource) – your roadmap to get your entire campus involved in building and sustaining a healthy school environment
  • CATCH health curriculum bundle – available schoolwide via CATCH.org
  • CATCH PE physical activity pack – available schoolwide via CATCH.org
  • 5 SEL Anchor Activities – plus option to add SEL Journeys program
  • Ongoing Support from your CATCH Guide – regular check-ins and consultation with a CATCH program manager
  • Culminating Project – document your Whole Child Guided Journey with the CATCH Yearbook Portfolio

One Journey, Four Phases

The Whole Child Guided Journey is divided into four phases, spread across the school year (approximate dates shown). Each phase includes a Learning Session and an Action Period. During each Action Period, a CATCH Program Manager will provide check-ins and consultation for the school wellness leader to discuss progress, celebrate successes, and help troubleshoot any problems that may arise.

CATCH Promise

Making Healthy Schools Possible

CATCH Promise is a health equity initiative that uses the Guided Journey to bring Whole Child wellness to school districts across the country where there is:

  1. a substantial public health need,
  2. a lack of resources to implement, and
  3. district readiness to act.

CATCH Global Foundation commits to help districts with high free or reduced-price lunch rates (>75% FRL) overcome financial barriers to participate in the Guided Journey.

CATCH Promise is not a blank check; it’s an investment and there are terms to be met. But, we’re ready to bring substantial grants for educational programs to districts that are committed to creating healthy change.
